The story of: Gabrielle

My name is Gabrielle, and I have NF.

I’m an elementary school teacher, master of education, mom and mother. I’d like to expand my family without passing on the NF for several very personal reasons. I have a healthy son, but I also had two miscarriages early in the 2nd trimester and chose to let go of three babies who had NF detected at prenatal screening. After a year of in vitro fertilization (IVF) and 150 injections, all at our own expense, we unfortunately have no viable embryos.

Our dream of using science to avoid terminating a pregnancy is fading. We hope that one day, pre-implantation screening will be available free of charge or that science will make it possible to detect the disease earlier in the pregnancy and in a less invasive way.
